EARLY’S HONEY STAND RACE TEAM TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL “GREAT RACE” Cross-Country Vintage Car Rally To Raise Money for Autism Awareness and Research

SPRING HILL, Tenn. – Erskine Early used to transport honey from the hives to his roadside stand in a car similar to what current Early’s Honey Stand owner Curt Gibbs will be driving as part of a cross-country vintage car race next month.
From June 23 through July 1, Gibbs and his son, Curtis, will pilot a 1932 Ford Roadster around the Great Lakes and across 19 cities and four states as part of the Great Race, pitting driver/navigator teams against the clock and each other in a timed, controlled-speed endurance competition over scenic public highways and roads.
As part of the event, the Gibbs are also raising money toward the Vintage Car Rally Association’s (VRCA) Race for Autism. The VRCA (www.vintagecarrally.com) promotes vintage vehicle time/speed/distance competitive events, and donates 100 percent of the profits to specific autism causes.
“I’ve always enjoyed working on old cars, and Curtis and I have participated in these races before for fun,” said Curt Gibbs, owner of Early’s Honey Stand. “When we heard of the effort to raise money for autism awareness, we wanted to offer a special set of Early’s products to help drive donations. This is a great cause, and something we are proud to support.”
Early’s Honey Stand – a gourmet Southern food and gift company located in Spring Hill, Tenn. – has been in continuous operation since 1925, specializing in locally made, country-style food products, including local honey, smoked meats, jams and jellies and more. Early’s Race Team is offering a special Early’s gift basket featuring its famous Thick Sliced Bacon (Elvis’ Favorite !), Country Ham Slices, Local Clover Honey, Blackberry Jam and Stone Ground Grits. In addition, this special gift box will include the first in a series of “Kelsey Kards” drawn by Kelsey Scott, a resident of Spring Hill Tennessee with Autism and Downs Syndrome, with proceeds going to benefit autism. Beginning in June, and continuing throughout the summer, these gift baskets can be purchased from the company’s retail locations in Spring Hill and Lebanon, and through their website www.earlysgifts.com, Early’s distributes Tennessee products all over the globe.
99 teams from around the nation are participating in the 2012 Great Race, which starts in Traverse City, Mich., travels through Canada, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and ends in Dearborn, Mich., seven days later. Following specific course instructions, teams navigate through four to seven timed checkpoints each day. Their arrival time at each checkpoint is recorded and compared against the perfectly driven route, with each second off the perfect time, (either early or late) counted as penalty points. The winning team is the one with the lowest overall score (the most accurately driven route) at the end of the event. To learn more, visit www.greatrace.com.

85 Years of Quality Food and Friendly Service

In 1925, Early's was just a simple roadside honey stand under a big shade tree on U.S. Highway 31 in serene Spring Hill, Tennessee. Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills, we sold our rich golden honey during the summer and slow-smoked country meats during the winter. Lots of people traveling from the north to sunny Florida, and then back home, stopped to buy our delicious products. That's how folks all over the country got to know Early's.

Eventually, a new interstate highway was built and routed most of our over-the-counter customers away from us. Because our product was the best they'd ever tasted, most of them called and asked us to ship baskets of goodies to them. This was Early's introduction into the mail order business, and today we're the oldest mail order house in the South! We've since shipped our products to presidents, heads of state, Supreme Court judges, NFL owners, stars, CEOs, and thousands of folks just like you. As we grew, we added jams, mixes, cheeses, nuts, and other sausages and country fixins. While we're always looking for new product ideas and better ways to serve our customers, we won't change the promise Mr. Early made to his customers when he first opened his doors...

"At Early's you'll always get the best quality product at a reasonable price, from the friendliest people in the world."
